San Francisco, CA
Fall 2008- Sophomore Year
In recent years, industrial areas in San Francisco have been increasingly gentrified. Much attention has been paid to the development of appropriate buildings that provide housing as well as work spaces for businesses such as industrial design and production. This design proposal is a response to efforts in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood to revitalize this district by providing a hybrid live/work space for a local cabinetmaker. The occupant’s profession influenced the design concept, as is evidenced through the regular, orthogonal nature and vertical stacking of each distinct space.  The design also developed through an analysis of adjacent programatic elements:  spaces transition from public to private and work to living upward and back through the building.
